Raoh SCHORR (1901-1991):
Swiss sculptor, ceramist, painter, designer. Born at Muttenz, Switzerland; had Swiss ancestors dating back 500 years.
Studied art at Basle, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Geneva, under Hans Hofmann at Munich, and at the Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
Had a studio in Paris for thirteen years, and modeled many sculptures in the Paris Zoo.
Settled in England in 1936. His sculptures are mostly of animals; his paintings of animals and flowers. Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1937. Since living in England most of his animal sculptures have been modeled from animals in the London Zoo.
In addition, he has been active as a designer of fabrics, interior decoration, exhibitions, sculpture for film and theater, displays for shop windows.
Made many ceramics of animals for Royal Doulton and since 1965 has modeled groups of animals for the Worcester Royal Porcelain Co. Ltd.
