Michel DUFET (1888-1985) Michel DUFET (1888-1985):
Michel Dufet was born in Deville-the-Rouen (Normandy) on December 8, 1888. Former pupil of the Higher School of the fine arts for architecture and painting it belongs to the Order of the architects. Since 1913 it melts Company M.A.M. where it presents models of pieces of furniture.
Since 1919 it exposes to the shows of Autumn and the Artists Decorators of which it was from the start member. It presents at the Show of Autumn of 26 a significant movable whole of cubist spirit; take part in the Colonial Exposure of 31 with the Offices of the Lyautey Marshal and the General Police chief; with the International exhibition 37 it organizes with Rene Gabriel the class of the wallpapers whose it draws the presentation, it is named into 38 architect of operation of the French Participation in the Exposure of New - York.
It arranged the private installations of many Parisian personalities. Particularly interested by the boats it had organized the gaming room of the children for the first "dregs of France" and carried out since great sets of luxury for the "Foch", "Normandy", the "Island of France" and especially specialized in architecture and interior decoration of private yachts. Since 1924 and until 39 it directs, in collaboration with Leandre Vaillat the Art gallery of the Logger (pieces of furniture of luxury and series). In 1918 it had created the review "Layers of art", in 1923 he is destined for Rio to direct "Red Star" in order to determine a movement of modern decorative art, since it collaborated in the foundation or the drafting of daily newspapers and periodicals; he is a writer as a head of the review "Decoration of Today" since 33.
Since 1928 Bourdelle had charged it with establishing the plans of the museum which he wanted to make build place of I.. It took part in the organization of current Museum Bourdelle and is since then devoted by exposures, conferences, etc, in Paris, in Province and the Abroad with the diffusion of the work of the Master. Michel Dufet chevalier of the Legion of Honour since 36 was promoted Officier into 52. The activities of Michel Dufet are multiple and varied, if for a few years it has given the best of his time to the work of Bourdelle it continues to militate by articles and conferences for the modern art. It worked during all its career with the development of a "style of today" by holding account at the same time requirements; current life, aesthetic evolution and contributions of mechanization.
If its taste, and the significant orders which were entrusted to him, led it to conceive sets refined and of luxury, to use materials Plus various - it built offices, with harmonious volumes, very out of zinc - its scientific curiosity and its imagination involved it in erudite mechanical adaptations.
Thus it carried out the room and the study of the former director of Comoedia, Mr. Rovera, whose pieces of furniture, objects, luminaries, heating changed, emerged, intensified or neutralizing by a gesture the catch of one of the buttons of a vast control board.
This spectacular and occasional application did not correspond about it less to very precise concerns "the tele mechanization of the human equipment", annexes logical furniture of series. For Michel Dufet this last problem orders all the others and could find solution valid only by one industrial production similar to that practiced in America for the frames of cars. It would consider the execution of interchangeable elements which could, by the happy balance of proportions, by the judicious use of new materials to lend itself has multiple combinations excluding the uniformity. Ingeniousness the taste, scientific knowledge of the artist must, according to Michel Dufet, to collaborate in the rational organization of the habitat... decorative art would thus answer its double aesthetic and social mission.
