Antoine HEITZMANN (1910-1995): Antoine HEITZMANN lives in Strasbourg (Alsace) where his father had a decoration house. Born in 1910, he studied in Kleber College till 16 years old. From 1926 to 1930 and 1933 to 1935, he was student in the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg with Emile SCHNEIDER (1873-1948), SCHULTZ, Louis-Philippe KAMM (1882-1959) and Auguste CAMMISSAR (1873-1962) as teachers. In 1935 he finished his studies with a 'very good' mention and obtained the award of the Strasbourg town. From 1938 to 1939, he studied in Paris in Academie Jullian under the direction of Nicolas-Pierre UNTERSTELLER (1900-1968) and Jean SOUVERBIE (1891-1981). Since 1936, he created his own atelier in Strasbourg. From 1947 to 1957, he taught as the 'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs' of Strasbourg and at the 'Ecole Nationale Superieure'. He did many exhibitions in Strasbourg, Paris, Mulhouse, Colmar, Baden-Baden and also at the 'Salon militaire' of Marrakech and at the 'Salon d'Art Sacré' of Paris and Strasbourg.
His technique characterizes itself by its great variety. He was as good in oil painting as in gouache, water-color, pencil, charcoal or pastel. He made frescoes, mosaics and decoration panels also. He decorated the churches of Strasbourg-Neuhof, Rohrwiller, Krafft, Niederschaeffolsheim and Erstein. He painted stained-glasses for the churches of Drulingen, Neuve-Eglise, Drouot-Mulhouse, Brunstatt and Thann. He did also stained-glasses and decoration panels for the Tobacco Manufacture of Strasbourg, a frescoe for the Mutzig door, another one for the Draeger-Brandt Plant in La Meinau. In his archives, there is a lot of painted compositions that have never been reproduced. Sacred themes appear very often in his work but he did also a lot of profane figurative compositions. He painted a lot of beautiful nudes and also many landscapes, Alsace in autumn and winter and also landscapes of many countries he traveled by (Marocco, Baleares, etc.). He painted also still-life paintings and daily life scenes.
