Fritz-August BREUHAUS de GROOT (1883-1960) : Set of four chairs, model ST 17, round tubular chromed steel frame and ivory leather back and seat. Original chrome (in good condition), back and seat redone and re-upholstered with a beautiful ivory leather.

BREUHAUS de GROOT, Fritz-August (1883-1960):
German architect and designer active in Düsseldorf. Studied Technische Hochschule, Berlin-Charlottenburg and Kunstgewerbeschule, Düsseldorf.
He worked for Peter BEHRENS (1868-1940), his fellow student in Düsseldorf. After 1927, he designed metalwork and silverwares for Würtembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF). In the late 1920's, some of Breuhaus's tubular-steel chairs were produced by THONET. BREUHAUS, as interior architect, and artist ARPKE collaborated with Ludwig DÜRR, the chief constructor at the Luftschiffbau-Zeppelin, on the layout and decorations of the 1936 'Hindenburg' dirigible, making extensive use of aluminium. He also designed for trains and oceanliners, and his work included ceramics, wallpaper, and bookbindings.
