This photo is one of Abbott's best known images from her NYC photo essay. It's reproduced in Bonnie YOCHELSON's book: Berenice ABBOTT: Changing New York. NY. The New Press. 1999. Middle East Side 16 (Commentary on p.380: 'Abbott made her point more elegantly by filling the right side of the composition with the hotel's graceful "spiraling" balconies (on the south facade) and the left side with the geometric setbacks of 22 East 40th Street, a 45-story skyscraper built in 1931').
